Petrified Forest is amazing place to visit with a tapestry of vibrant colors, ranging from the red and purple hues of the Painted Desert to the vast expanse of fossil-rich badlands. We really love this layers of colors. Take a scenic drive along the park’s main road (about 30miles). Marvel at the eroded hoodoos, intricate rock formations, and panoramic vistas that make this park a photographer’s paradise. And even if this park is small and not too many trails, it is worth to visit. You do not need lot of time and you can just do it on the way between Albuquerque and Las Vegas or Phoenix.
Blue Mesa Trail
Trail offers a short 0.9 mile but captivating hike through the stunning badlands. This trail immerses you in a world of otherworldly beauty, showcasing the unique geological formations and vibrant colors of the area.
Crystal Forest
This trail offers a wonderland of multi-colored logs. Spanning approximately 0.7 miles, this trail is a must-visit for it’s unique geological landscape.
Route 66
You will find yourself on a nostalgic journey along the famous and historic Route 66: A Historic Connection. As you go into the park, you’ll find sections of the old road that wind through the mesmerizing landscapes. Along the sides of Route 66 within Petrified Forest National Park, you’ll see the fascinating relics of a bygone era, various viewpoints and pull-off areas and keep an eye out for old cars.
