Cancun
Year 2019 we started with trip to Mexico to Cancun. We used our long weekend so we had only 3 days there. We wanted relaxed trip and we took all inclusive hotel for first time. We wanted spend time in hotel but we didn’t. When we reached hotel The Royal Sands & Spa they offered us some tours – Chichen Itza, Coba, Tulum. Be carrefour they are expensive and you have to spend 10-12hr in bus with 50 others people. If you like this kind of trips book it but if you like driving and be boss of your time rent a car. Don’t listen that will be crowded on roads. We didn’t have big traffic. On the roads are controls by police and military so you can feel safe.
We rent a car for about 100$ (3 days) and even they dropped car to our hotel at 8 am. Evening before we made our plan. On our list was Chichen Itza, some Cenotes and Tulum. In tours offer Chichem itza, cenote were without Tulum. We went first to Chichen Itza because was far, about 3h from hotel. Go there in early morning, start at 8-8:30 am, so you can avoid lot of people there.
On the way you will pay toll, but in this price you have coffee or water in tourist information before Chichen Itza. It is really nice and you can ask for what you want to see. We wanted see cenote ( water-filled pit that is created when the roof of an underground cavern collapses) so guide help us to choose good one and not crowded.
Chichen Itza
Chichen Itza is impressive. Mayan people did lot of work. You can take guide or not, we walked without and enjoy. Near by you have market with nice Mexican clothes and souvenirs. People there can speak in other languages. We were surprised that they started speak Polish and Hindi. In Polish they even knew sentence from Polish advertisement … was funny… and we were in shock. Take your time and walk around. We spent around 2 hrs total.
We chose X-Cajum cenote with lunch. Wasn’t crowded and nice place to swim with small fishes. We didn’t take camera or phone but only gopro.
Tulum
Next we went to Tulum. We walked to beach, where is is really nice and met some animals – white – nosed coati. We didn’t go to ruins, but saw from beach.
On the way back we saw advertisement Cenote Park Hidden Treasures and we wanted check what was that. It was nice idea, because they have cenote cave and you can snorkel inside – great experience. Inside are small fishes and blue crabs. Our guide Gilberto was super, funny and we had private tour because was almost at closing time. You definitely should try.
If you are in Cancun you must go to Playa del Carmen. Beautiful place and nice downtown. Lot of place when you can buy souvenir and drink margeritta. You can also try lot of different tequila. Try to find bar with swings…
Coba
Coba is an ancient Mayan city and ruins lie around 40 km (25miles) of Tulum. The pyramid you can climb and the view from the top is amazing. From parking you walk there about 30 minutes in forest or you can rent bike, take tuk tuk. We chose walk and was really nice but if you are tired just choose other option.
Cenotes Suytun
On the way back from Coba, we were looking for more cenotes. They are everywhere. We found very popular on social media – Cenote Suytun. We went there for photo only and other people did the same. There is long line just for photo.
Snorkel
Last day we had late flight so we wanted enjoy hotel but we found Jungle tour. It was tour by small boat for two. It was fun to drive it. You drive in line behind guide. First you have instructions how to drive. Then you have ride between mangroves to place for snorkel. It was beautiful place for snorkel and if you can swim fast you can reach part of underwater museum. We saw some statues in the water. Worth it. So that was our last day.
Driving around Cancun ad Tulum area you can find lot of nice things. Look around and stop on the way.
